Nature Reclaims The Railway

This is a 9x12" acrylic painting (framed).  It is a closeup view of nature at work, doing what she does best.  This image was collected while on a walk around the inlet in Port Moody.  Part of the railway is used only occasionally on Canada day, and nature is quick to reclaim what she lost.

Emerging II

This painting was originally called Emerging, and was accepted into an abstract show at the Federation Gallery at Granville Island.  After I got it back from the show, I decided to make a few changes to the painting, and like it better now.  It will be displayed at the Port Moody Art Show, November 2,3,4.  The origin of the image was from a photo of oil stains on the concrete in the parking lot underneath the city hall in Port Moody.

Want your portrait painted or drawn?

If you live in Port Moody, BC, and would like your portrait painted or drawn, send me a photo of yourself and a little blurb on why you would like it done!  You can also send a pic of anyone who you consider is/was important to the history of Port Moody, BC.   I will need contact information (email is fine).  If you are selected, you will get it done.  However, you will not have any say over the final composition, as that is the artists perogative!  You don't have to be famous or good looking (but if you happen to be either or both okay)....just send an your story, which will be included in the exhibition, as will the finished work.  Have you embarked on a transformational journey (working out at the gym every day?  starting something new of any ilk?)?  Do you serve the public every day in Port Moody?  Did one of your grandparents live in Port Moody?  Do you walk the trail around the inlet every day?  You can be anybody of any age, just send in your pic and blurb.

Why I am I doing this?

Well, next year is the centennial for Port Moody, and the group Suite 'E' Lifedrawing is doing a show at the Port Moody Art gallery next summer that is all portraits of citizens for the centennial celebrations.

New Painting August 13, 2012

"KOI RUSH HOUR"  24 X 30 ", Acrylic on Canvas

These Koi are from a hotel pool in Kauai.  They rush to get to the food first whenever a tourist nears the pool.  Started this one a long time ago (UFO>unfinished object) and finally finished it.  Had a lot of trouble getting the colour right in the photo, and don't think I have suceeded yet.  Have been trying it out on different computers and it is different on every one!  Agggh!

Place des Arts Opening July 2012

I am standing beside a painting titled "Late in the Day" at the opening of the Suite 'E' Lifedrawing show at the Place des Arts in Coquitlam.  The painting was chosen for the promotional material for the show.  The show is in the main gallery and continues to August 4th.
The rowboat in the painting used to be tethered at the dock at Rocky Point in Port Moody, and it was during an evening walk that I spotted this image.  The rowboat has disappeared now but lives on here.

Eye Insight

Sold, 16 x 20", acrylic on canvas

One evening after my husband had eye surgery he was sitting in his lounge chair with the light coming from the left side and there was my picture.  I prevailed upon him to sit for several photos, and after editing got some good source material.
This painting was exhibited at the Federation Gallery at Granville Island, and won an Award of Excellence.

Surprise at Ocean's Edge

18 x 24", acrylic on canvas
I was at Belcarra one day and found a tidal pool at the edge of water with an almost round rock in it...very unusual.  I took a photo of it and painted it as kind of a self challenge as it was quite detailed.
This painting was exhibited at the Federation Gallery at Granville Island.

Dahlia Backs are Beautiful Too

36 x 40", acrylic on cradled board

I found this painting in a UFO pile in the basement while cleaning up for a kitchen reno.  It was started many years ago when I used to have some pink dahlias in the garden.  I took many photos, but found the ones of the backs the most interesting as the fronts were too perfect.  So I finally finshed it !  Yeah!
